This is a 1908 Gustav Giraffe, stripped of paint and waxed. Rows of giraffes, starting with the largest one on the outside to the smallest one on the inside can be found on menagerie Dentzel carousels. Each one had a slightly different pose. Because of their tall bodies giraffes were always a standing animal until recently. A recent (1997) Dentzel carousel, M.G.R. no. 8, has a flying giraffe on it, probably another first for the carousel world. Don't expect to see wings on this little guy but do expect to fly!
